The man accused of rape by Maxime Meiland starts legal proceedings against the reality star. He does not want to appeal against the earlier decision of the summary proceedings, but instead wants to go to the bottom court, his lawyer Peter Schouten said.
The man had filed summary proceedings after Meiland accused him of rape in her biography, without mentioning his name. He stated that this bothered him because the allegations could be traced back to him and therefore demanded that the book be withdrawn from the market. The judge ruled him out.
“The judge did not find the man’s claims suitable for summary proceedings. He had to go to the bottom judge, where the evidence can be weighed,” says Schouten. “He continues to maintain that Maxime Meiland made up the rape and has witnesses who can confirm this. He can also prove with witnesses how much trouble he has had from the accusations.”
Victim lawyer Sébas Diekstra, who represents Meiland, said in a short response that in his opinion “the court’s verdict in which the client was found in favor on all points was crystal clear.” His client is not yet aware of the announced substantive proceedings.
Meiland has now had the bank account of the man she accuses of rape seized. She did this because the man has not yet paid the legal costs, more than 4,100 euros. According to his lawyer Peter Schouten, the man proposed to pay the amount in installments, but Meiland rejected this offer. The man has started a crowdfunding campaign to pay the amount in one go.
