According to Maxime, life is in Chateau Assistance very different from what she is used to. ‘We get each other through it, and we have a lot of fun together. But budget wise… it’s terrible!’ According to the Meiland scion, there is hardly any money for… wine!

According to Maxime, there is only money to eat, and Erica is filling out an extensive bookkeeping every night. “Every evening we look at: what have we spent today, what is left for tomorrow? It’s just very skimping.”
Chateau Assistance is already controversial
Yet the daughter of the Meilandjes sees a few bright spots. Little Claire is suddenly playing outside a lot! “If you don’t have a TV inside, or no iPad, those children will automatically play outside more.” That also comes at a cost. “I sacrificed my bed because she wanted a party. So I’ve been on banana boxes since yesterday. That’s even an improvement, because I first lay with my mattress on the floor.”
We will see how Martien, Erica and Maxime get through the ‘month on welfare’ from 7 March. Of Chateau Assistance the family wants to commit themselves to the Baby Stuff Foundation. However, the program is already a bit controversial. Critics say anyone can live in poverty for a monthbut the point is that people cannot get out on their own. The family home is also a bit more expensive than you would expect.
