And not just any music performance, but one performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Queen Máxima has been its patroness since 2005 and at the beginning of last month she visited the Amsterdam practice location to meet the new management.
Undoubtedly, the state visit was also discussed with German director Dominik Winterling and artistic director Ulrike Niehoff. However, the pair kept their mouths shut to the press, even when the possibility of a new performance by the world-famous orchestra was suggested during such a visit.
The fact that the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is asked to provide the so-called counter performance is not unique, but it is exceptional. It takes quite a bit to get the large orchestra with instruments and all to travel. This was already the case before the corona pandemic and is now slightly more complicated. Fortunately, Berlin, where the concert is given in the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt, is not that far away. The orchestra is of course also used to something, although this is the first foreign performance since March last year.
