Maxim Čajkovič Shines in AHL with Point-Per-Game Performance, Martin Chromiak Finds Third-Line Role

Two Slovak hockey players took part in the AHL night fights. Maxim Čajkovič confirmed his excellent form and scored again. Martin Chromiak only got space in the third attacking formation and did not make a significant mark in the statistics.

Maxim Tchaikovic has averaged a point per game since being called up to the AHL from the ECHL. He scored in each of the three meetings. First, he opened his shooting account when his precise strike was named the goal of the week by the Iowa Wild in the team poll. In the night game on home ice against the Colorado Eagles, he followed up on the assist from the previous game and again had a hand in a teammate’s goal. This time he combined with the defender O’Rourke, whose shot went behind the back of the goalkeeper Justus Annunen Caedan Bankier. Maxim Čajkovič was also on the ice during a successful power-play combination, thanks to which Iowa turned the unfavorable situation from 0:1 to 2:1 during the first period, but he did not score an assist. In the next 40 minutes, only the home team scored goals, and Iowa fell 2-4 in front of 7,315 Colorado spectators. Maxim Čajkovič also entered the statistics with one expulsion at the end of the duel for illegal defending, thereby depriving his team of the possibility of creating continuous pressure and the chance to fight for a better result. Despite this, the Wild organization must be satisfied with his performances. The statistics speak clearly. In three fights, he scored the same number of points for a balance of 1+2.

When he was injured on November 29 Pavol Regenda, the club’s reactions did not indicate that it should be a long-term injury. The Slovak was supposed to miss the San Diego Gulls’ 5-game trip, but fans had hopes that the team’s top scorer would return to the lineup in December. After a month, the emphatic forward is still sidelined. The farm of the Anaheim Ducks also missed the night meeting against the Ontario Reign, in whose jersey he started Martin Chromiak. The Slovak shooter was given space in the third attacking formation alongside Hudon and Pinelli. He did not score points, he threatened the opponent’s goal twice, but his attempt in the power play during the second period was not successful. He also didn’t walk in overtime trying to pull the victory for the Ontario side. In the game, he served 2 minutes on the penalty bench after serving a team penalty for too many players on the ice. Thanks to Gawdin, San Diego enjoyed a 4-3 overtime win. The author of the Gulls’ winning goal is, together with Ben King, the club’s second best scorer with eight accurate shots behind the mentioned 10-goal Pavel Regenda.
