The musician and DJ, whose name was Maxwell Fraser, was a central member of the band, best known for their classic clubbing Insomnia.
Sister Bliss, who was her bandmate in the electronic music group, said she died “peacefully in her sleep” on Friday night at her south London home.
“Sending love to everyone who has shared our musical journey. Take care of each other,” she wrote on Twitter.
Faithless was known for singles like God is a DJ, We come 1which reached number three in the charts in 2001, and success Insomniawhich placed third in 1996.
The group has sold millions of records worldwide.
Reggae band UB40, who toured with Jazz in 2017, paid tribute to the singer with a reference to Jazz’s single. Insomnia: “A lovely boy, gone too soon, but finally Maxi you can get some sleep.”
A statement shared on Jazz’s Instagram account and signed by his former bandmates reads, “He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave the right meaning and message to our music.”
“He was also a lovely human being who had time for everyone and deep, accessible wisdom. It has been an honor and obviously a real pleasure to work with him.”
“He was a brilliant lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, a car lover, an endless talker, a beautiful person, a moral compass and a genius,” the band members said.
Faithless formed in 1995 and pioneered electronic dance music.
They were nominated for Best UK Dance Act at the Brit Awards in 1999 and 2002.
The band broke up in 2011 but came back to release a new studio album almost a decade later during the covid pandemic.
However, they were not joined by Jazz, who had formed another band, Maxi Jazz & The E-Type Boys.
