More and more carnival clubs in the Palatinate are canceling their carnival parades. Now the joint carnival parade from Maxdorf and Birkenheide is also cancelled.
The reason for this is that the carnival parade is in the near Mutterstadt (Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis) was also cancelled. That’s why officials fear that far more visitors, fools and carnival fans would have come to Maxdorf than originally thought. Since the security concept there was not designed for so many people, the move has now been canceled.
It was supposed to take place on February 18th. Traditionally they take care of it Maxdorfhe “float river swallows” together with the “cranes” from the neighboring Birkenheide about the joint carnival parade with at least 60 numbers. Afterwards there is always a festival on the Kerweplatz.

Carnival parade in Mutterstadt does not take place
The “Geehltreiwer” in Mutterstadt actually wanted to go through the streets on Shrove Tuesday and finally celebrate street carnival again after the Corona break. This week, however, the club announced that the move was cancelled. The reason is a lack of staff. In order to meet the country’s security requirements, 30 people had to be hired – that didn’t work. According to the carnival club in Mutterstadt, the security companies asked either didn’t respond at all or responded too late to the Geeßtrewer’s request.
The association and municipal administration regret the cancellation in their own words and ask for your understanding.
Carnival parade: Herxheim is also backing down
After the joint move from Mannheim and Ludwigshafen had already been canceled in autumn, Herxheim (District Southern Wine Route) suddenly became the largest carnival metropolis in the region. But the move on February 21 was also canceled, as the carnival association announced on social networks.
That’s how exuberant it was at the 2019 street carnival in Herxheim in the Südliche Weinstraße district.

Around 300 club members should actually ensure safety along the route. A security service was also planned. But: The association cannot meet the safety requirements that are necessary financially, materially and in terms of personnel. The club deeply regrets not being able to continue its tradition this year.
No relocation in Germersheim and Offenbach an der Queich either
In Germersheim the big carnival parade was supposed to start on February 18th. But the carnival society “Die Rhoischnooke” canceled the event in early January. In a statement, it was said that the country’s new security requirements meant that the club could not manage the move either personally or financially. The association hopes for a rethink in the state government and an end to the – literally “regulatory mania”.
The Fastnachters were also in for a long time Offenbach held on to this year’s move at the Queich. But the Offenbach club “Die Froschköpp” also dropped its plan to revive the move, which had been suspended since 2015.
New Police and Regulatory Authority Act: Hardly any carnival parades
Carnival parades were canceled throughout Rhineland-Palatinate for the same reason. In the Palatinate, this was also the case recently Frankenthal, the southern Palatinate BellheimLudwigshafen-Oppau and Weisenheim am Sand (Bad Dürkheim district). Also in the southern Palatinate Worth (Germersheim district) the move was cancelled. However, there should be a children’s parade – details have not yet been determined.

Only a few carnival parades planned in the Palatinate
According to the current status, only smaller moves are planned in the Palatinate: for example in Jockgrim, Maxdorf, Birkenheide, Waldsee and Altrip.
