Max Verstappen he piled up record after record in the 2023 Formula 1 season, since in addition to winning his third consecutive world championship title, he crossed the finish line first in nineteen of the twenty-two grand prix, and as part of this, he also presented a record-long winning streak spanning ten races.
The championship cup was organized by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in Azerbaijan last Friday at the awards gala the Dutchman who took over is aware that it will not be easy to surpass or even repeat this year’s march, so he has not set himself the goal of another dominant year, instead he wants to improve during the winter break and come back even stronger than ever.
„Realistically speaking, next year cannot be much better than what we achieved this year. But in my opinion, we should not always strive to win twenty races, but rather to try to improve on an individual level, as well as in terms of the car. If that means in practice that we’ve moved forward with the car and we can fight for the world title again, but we only win ten races, that’s fine too.”
Verstappen thinks so the field will shake, since the rules will not change much next year. “The competitors performed quite fluctuating around us, one weekend this team got there, and the next another team got there. I think the others have learned a lot about these rules for next year, which will naturally lead to a tighter field.”
“We won a lot as a team this season, but it was also very enjoyable to work with everyone in the stable. Of course, if you win a few races in a row, you want to keep the momentum going as long as possible. The pressure is always on you, you always want to do well. But it was never about breaking those records, I just tried to do my best every race weekend and consciously tried to enjoy it. You know great moments like this don’t come around very often. So it’s been a very, very good year.”
Verstappen avoided the construction that has won all but one race this year, that is RB19’s weaknesses is. „We are aware of the car’s weaknesses. We will work on these, and to highlight our strengths even more. Let’s see how we did in Singapore and on street courses in general. We also suffered a bit in Las Vegas. The pace shown at low speed was not our car’s strong point, just like the blistering asphalt strips. So it’s definitely an area where we can improve.”
