Max Verstappen (Red Bull) recorded a 1 minute 4 seconds 391 and won the pole position of the 10 rounds of the 2023 FIA-F1 World Championship Austria GP. Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) was eliminated in Q1 in 16th position, 0.021 seconds behind.
Despite the upgrades, the Ferraris were close to the points leader, but Charles Leclerc fell short of 48/1000s for second and Carlos Sainz fell 0.19s for third.

Lando Norris (McLaren) sank to the bottom of FP1 due to damage to the latest floor, but showed his true potential in qualifying. The MCL60, which received the first round of full-scale improvements, demonstrated its competitiveness from start to finish, and Norris was proudly in 4th place, 77/1000 seconds behind Sainz.
While his teammate took pole for the fourth straight race, Sergio Pérez was lackluster and dropped out of Q2 in 15th place due to track limits on three consecutive laps.
Lance Stroll marked 6th. He kept Fernando Alonso in seventh and beat his teammate. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) held off the Aston Martins and placed fifth.
Colleague Kevin Magnussen finished 19th and was eliminated in Q1, while Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) advanced to Q3 following the previous round in Canada, and held off Pierre Gasly (Alpine) to finish 8th.
Alex Albon (Williams) finished the session 10th after his 6th fastest time was eliminated by track limits.
The battle to determine the starting grid for the final, which took place at the Red Bull Ring on June 30th, started in dry conditions with an air temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a track surface of 42 degrees Celsius, while dark clouds covered the sky. Official tire supplier Pirelli brought in the C3 compound for hard (white), C4 for medium (yellow) and C5 for soft (red).
Track limits frequently occurred throughout the session, mainly at turns 9 and 10. With the deletion of the time, the order became a flurry of changes.
Qualifying Q1: Fierce battle midfield, Tsunoda OUT
Six minutes into the race, Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) lost control on the exit of Turn 1 and flew out onto the grass for a red flag. There was no contact and Bottas then returned to the garage to join the session and qualified for Q2 in 15th place.

Yuki Tsunoda was kicked out by Bottas by 21/1000ths of a second and unfortunately disappeared in 16th place. Team-mate Nick de Vries exited the car in 20th place.
The midfield was hard fought. From Alonso, who passed 7th, to Yuki Tsunoda, it was only a comma of 13 seconds.

Qualifying Q2: Perez no time after 3 consecutive off-track violations
Although the Red Bulls finished the first set’s measurement and built a one-two, both times were erased due to the track limit.
Verstappen returned to the top on the next timed lap, but Perez fell to the bottom with no time remaining with three minutes to go after driving off the track again. He was 2nd on the last lap, but once again hit the track limit and dropped out of Q2 in 15th.
