Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix of the Formula One (F-1) world championship at the Monza circuit on Sunday, reaching an F-1 record with ten consecutive race wins.
Verstappen (“Red Bull”) beat teammate Sergio Perez by 7.686 seconds and Ferrari pilot Carlos Sainz by 11.674 seconds, but second Ferrari pilot Charles Leclair lost to the winner by 12.119 seconds.
Verstappen started from the second place behind Sainz, but passed him at the beginning of the 15th lap and did not let any driver get close to him.
Mercedes drivers George Russell and Louis Hamilton finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while Spaniard Fernando Alondo (Aston Martin) took ninth place.
“Alpine” rider Esteban Ocon and “AlphaTauri” pilot Yuki Tsunoda did not reach the finish, who did not make it past the warm-up lap.
In the overall standings, Verstappen increased his lead over his competitors with 364 points. Perez is second with 219 points, while Alonso is six ahead of Hamilton with 170 points.
Verstappen has won 12 out of 14 stages this season, while “Red Bull” has won all the races this season.
This was Verstappen’s second win in a row at Monza. Before last year, he had never finished higher than fifth in the Italian Grand Prix.
22 stages are planned for the F-1 2023 championship.
