Max Verstappen will leave pole position at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the Formula 1 World Championship.
The Red Bull driver, three-time World Champion, surpassed Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) by 288 thousandths, while George Russel, from Mercedes, closed the podium at 0.306s. It was the 33rd pole position of Verstappen’s career.

Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari, completed the second row of the grid, while Sergio Pérez, second Red Bull driver, was fifth fastest. Lewis Hamilton did not go beyond the ninth time, more than half a second behind.
The Bahrain Grand Prix race takes place this Saturday from 3pm.
