Max Verstappen will receive a five-start penalty at the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix after the gearbox was changed in his car, wrote the Autosport.
Red Bull announced before Friday’s sprint time trial that their defending World Cup champion Dutch driver will start the next race weekend with a new gearbox. According to the rules of Formula 1, cars can be changed without penalty four times during the entire season, but in Verstappen’s RB19, the current one will be the fifth. His punishment is not for Saturday’s sprint race, but for Sunday’s grand prix.
Red Bull’s decision to change gears at Spa seems logical, as there are many overtaking opportunities on the Belgian track. In addition, Red Bull completely stands out from the field, they have won 12 races in a row, so it is likely that Verstappen will be in the race for the first place despite the penalty. We wrote about Red Bull’s dominance and its reasons in detail in this article.
