The German also knows that tomorrow’s race is of course crucial, but it never hurts to score points in the sprint. Hülkenberg was able to drive several laps confidently on P2. His team with a good strategy is also responsible for this. Nico says that he just feels really good in the team at the moment and that the strategy just worked well today.

Round 24/24: Incomprehensible! Hulkenberg is back in the position he was in when he pitted 6 laps ago! Of course, Verstappen wins the sprint and even 21 seconds ahead of Perez! But Hülkenberg finishes sixth! He was able to make up important points for the team and the world championship – simply terrific!

Round 23/24: In the rear field, the drivers were sometimes four next to each other on the track. The slicks were definitely the right decision! Hulkenberg is almost five seconds faster than Norris on the intermediates! Can he still make up a place in the last two rounds?

Round 21/24: Chaos on the track! Leclerc and Hamilton almost touch and Monegasque has a hard time keeping his Ferrari on track! Meanwhile, Hulkenberg overtook Gasly and made it back into the points!

Round 19/24: The first drivers come into the box and switch to slicks! Hülkenberg was also brought in by Haas and thus lost his good position in the field! Was that the right call? Or will this have an aftermath? He could have tried to finish the race on P6. Now he’s on P9, just short of the points.

Round 15/24: LECLERC AND OCON DELIVER SUCH AN EXCITING DUEL! So far, Ocon can still prevail against the Ferrari. BUT HOW LONG? Leclerc overtakes in one corner, then Ocon is ahead again – which of the two will win the sprint?

Round 13/24: While all the other drivers fight exciting battles on the field: Norris against Leclerc, Perez against Hulkenberg, Hamilton against Magnussen. Verstappen drives his laps alone at the front. Perez is now ten seconds behind his teammates!

Round 11/24: Perez is now very close to Hulkenberg! He has been chasing the German for three laps and hopes to finally be able to overtake him! But the Haas is still really spreading on the route!

Round 8/24: For Lando Norris it’s actually a sprint to forget – after starting from P3 he dropped back to P10! He is now fighting for P8 with Leclerc and Ocon. Hulkenberg is no longer faster than Perez, but still in second place behind Max Verstappen!

Round 6/24: The rain will probably not stop immediately, Russell gets the information from his team that it will at least continue to rain slightly. Leclerc fights an exciting duel with Ocon for 8th place and almost crashed into the French, but was able to save his car again!

Round 3/24: The drivers are definitely good at sliding around on the wet asphalt. There is now more than a second between Hülkenberg and Perez! What a good start for the German. These could be important points for the World Cup today! Hulkenberg is the second fastest man on the track right now – unbelievable!

Round 1/24: Before the race has even started, Bottas comes in for the pit stop for the intermediates! PEREZ AND BOTTAS ALMOST PUSH EACH OTHER OUT! After two curves, however, Verstappen grabs his place again. HÜLKENBERG PASSES NORRIS SUPER FAST IN P3 AND THEN EVEN GRABS THE PLACE FROM PEREZ AND IS DIRECTLY BEHIND VERSTAPPEN IN P2!

Update from July 1st, 4:30 p.m.: The sprint race is about to start and it will be exciting to see which teams have chosen the slicks and intermediates! Valtteri Bottas is the only one without intermediates! And the rain keeps getting heavier…

First report from July 1st, 4:23 p.m.: Uh oh – the sky is rising in Spielberg! It will be a wet sprint race for everyone involved. There are actually no pit stops in the sprint race, but that could change this time!

Nico Hülkenberg is clearly ahead of his team-mate

Spielberg – Nico Hülkenberg had a good result in the sprint shootout in Spielberg on Saturday afternoon! In the afternoon at 4.30 p.m. the German will start the sprint race from position four. His colleague Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, only made it to P10. In the race on Sunday, too, Hulkenberg can start from P8 and again has the opportunity to score points for his team. So far he has brought in six of the eight points. Magnussen was only able to add two. Hulkenberg is well ahead of his teammate so far this season.

For the German there was still a little shock at the shootout. During a pit stop, he ran his racing car over an old tire, lifted his car and nearly injured a mechanic! The FIA saw this as an “unsafe release” from the team. However, Hülkenberg is allowed to keep his position in the sprint, the team has to pay a suspended fine of 5000 euros – if such an incident does not happen again!

Red Bull boss Christian Horner is slowly losing patience with Sergio Perez

The Formula 1 weekend couldn’t have gone better for Max Verstappen! On Friday (06/30) he already grabbed the pole position for the race on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon he also managed to win the sprint shootout. Both times he was able to beat his teammate Sergio Perez again. It’s not a good weekend again for the Mexican, who missed out on Q3 for the fourth time in a row.

Although team boss Christian Horner defends his driver, he also lets it be known that he is slowly losing patience: “He had the pace, he had a car that can easily get into the first or second row of the grid, he was able to match Max’s times so stay inside the white lines,” Horner added Sky UK. Perez wasn’t the only rider struggling to stay within the white line. There were a total of 47 violations of the track limits during qualifying. (lhe)
