Next career setback for Max Meyer. The former Bundesliga professional of FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Köln is not allowed to travel to the training camp with the Turkish top club Fenerbahce Istanbul.
Will he somehow get his career going again? Now Max Meyer (26) has had to accept the next setback. The former Bundesliga shooting star is about to be eliminated from his current club Fenerbahce Istanbul.
Meyer’s star had once risen at FC Schalke 04, for whom he played a total of 146 times in the German upper house between 2013 and 2018 (17 goals, 16 assists). After a failed contract poker game with the Royal Blues, his career then stalled: Meyer was unsuccessful in two and a half years at Premier League club Crystal Palace, as was in 2021 during his second half interlude at 1. FC Köln (ten games – no goal involvement) .
The move to Turkey followed – and Meyer hasn’t gotten his foot on the ground at Fenerbahce since then either. The result: In the second half of last season, the top Turkish club loaned the attacking midfielder to FC Midtjylland in Denmark.

In Denmark, Meyer got two assists in 13 games, no goal. No wonder the club decided not to exercise the option to buy the four-time German international.

The problem: Meyer is obviously not wanted at Fenerbahce either. The team is currently in a training camp in Graz, Austria – without Max Meyer! Coach Jorge Jesus (67) didn’t even take him with him. According to Turkish media, the Portuguese is not planning to play with the German for the coming season.
A fate that Meyer, by the way, shared with the one who was also booted out Mesut Özil (33) shares. Even the ex-DFB star was not allowed to go to Austria with the Fener team. Two former stars of the Bundesliga – now completely on the sidelines.
It is unclear how Meyer (and also Özil) will continue. Both of the once highly acclaimed kickers are still under contract with Fenerbahce until 2023. Is there a career change for both of them again? In any case, it seems increasingly unlikely that Meyer and Özil have a future with the 19-time Turkish champions. (kos)
