The 18-year-old Max Lenz from Ratingen has been writing his own songs for around two years. Together with his school friend Niklas, he records the pieces at home. With their music project “NAM”, the two already had 15,000 listeners a month before The Voice on Spotify. Now Max wants to get started musically.

Max Lenz: I had already applied in 2019, but didn’t make it from the preliminary rounds to the show. So I tried again this year. There were three selection rounds to survive beforehand. This time it worked.
–
Then how did you find out that you were invited to the blind auditions?
–
Lenz: When the call came that I was there, I was in the middle of my Abitur exams. The great joy came with a delay.
–
Lenz: I spent around two months preparing for the first appearance.
–
How does it feel when you enter the studio / stage? How big is the stage fright?
–
Lenz: I don’t remember exactly how I managed to sing through to the end. At first, I didn’t even notice that all the coaches had turned around. The stage fright was great. In retrospect, I can say – it doesn’t get any less, you just develop more confidence when performing.

<!–
You joined the team with Nico Santos. Was it your favorite from the start?
–
Lenz: Nico Santos or Samu Haber and Rae Garvey – those were my dream coaches.
–
Did you get very close to the stars? How are they?
–
Lenz: Nico Santos actually came to several coaching sessions and I got to know him very well. He is a very positive person and was always in a good mood. But Michael Schulte is also a very cool guy and has a great voice. I had less to do with the others.
–
How is the relationship to
the other candidate?
–
Lenz: Due to the corona, we didn’t have too close contact. I never had in mind that the others were competition. But I got along particularly well with Sion, Tosi, Mael and Jonas.
–
What do you learn
in coaching?
–
Lenz: The coaching was very time consuming. I listened to the songs over and over again and joined them in order to get a better sense of rhythm and to spare my voice. There was a lot of rehearsal and before the broadcast it went on stage under live conditions. But everything was well organized. You felt a bit like a star.
–
What did you think,
when it was over
–
Lenz: I was a bit disappointed but still proud to have made it this far. Many artists who did not emerge as winners from The Voice became very successful afterwards – for example Max Giesinger. I very much like The Voice as a great experience and as a boost for my musical career. Now I have to take action myself.
–
What’s next now?
–
Lenz: I have just started studying. I will definitely continue with the music. I write songs myself. I’m actually part of a band. With a heavy heart, I put the project on hold.
–
Do you have many
Won fans?
–
Lenz: I received a lot of emails. During a trip to Düsseldorf, fans recognized me. That is unusual but nice.
–
Where can fans hear you?
–
Lenz: I run a Youtube channel where I publish songs. I’m also very active on Instagram. I would be happy if I sing live in Ratingen after Corona
could.
