Maverick Vinales Makes History with Unprecedented MotoGP Record: Surpassing Valentino Rossi

Before becoming the 2024 American MotoGP champion with Aprilia, Maverick Vinales also won while defending Suzuki and Yamaha. An impressive record, especially as it is the first time he has won a GP since joining Aprilia in mid-2021.

A great racer like Rossi has not been able to record GP wins with three different teams. Because before there were only four racers who could do it.

The first was Mike Hailwood who won the GP while defending Norton, MV Agusta and Honda in the 500cc class in the 1960s. Next was Randy Mamola who won with Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha in the 1980s.

The third racer to win this MotoGP record is American racer Eddi Lawson. He was able to win with Yamaha, Hinda and Cagiva in 1992.

Only in 2003 was this unique record achieved by Loris Capirossi. He entered the elite ranks after winning the 500cc class with Yamaha (1996), Honda (2000), and Ducati (2003). And now Maverick Vinales has achieved it.

Valentino Rossi, who won 79 with Honda, then in Yamaha, failed to achieve this because he did not shine when defending Ducati.
