The Mauritanian Ministry of Health recorded a case of Congo-Crimean haemorrhagic fever at the beginning of this month of February according to a circular from the ministry which calls for vigilance and the strengthening of measures throughout the country.
In this circular to which Sahara Medias had access, this was recorded in Nouakchott on February 5, that is to say a week ago, on a subject from inside the country, which led to the anger of the ministry, according to our sources.
The ministry sent a circular on February 9 to all regional health directors and chief medical officers warning against negligence in the face of contagious diseases.
The ministry recalls that this case has exceeded several health structures in the country and in Nouakchott, which suggests a relaxation of vigilance at the level of our health system, which also constitutes a danger for health personnel.
The ministry gave no details as to the situation of the patient or his origin.
The Ministry of Health has asked regional health directors and chief medical officers inside the country to increase epidemiological monitoring measures in addition to taking other measures to prevent the infiltration of any cases of infectious diseases. dangerous.
Crimean Congo fever is one of the most dangerous haemorrhagic fevers among known fevers and according to the World Health Organization the disease is transmitted to humans by ticks and by cattle, and from person to person. another through contact with their blood, secretions, organs or other bodily secretions of the infected person.
According to the WHO, although this disease has appeared for a long time there is no vaccine for it, neither for people nor for animals.
Its treatment is limited to dealing with the symptoms that appear on the patient in addition to a permanent follow-up of this one.
From time to time, cases of this disease appear in Mauritania and the last case recorded was at the end of October 2020.
