Mauritania: Government spokesman expected on the escape of Islamist detainees

Alakhbar.info  – The communication of the Mauritanian government spokesman is expected this afternoon (Thursday) on the escape of four Islamist detainees, which occurred last Sunday, at the central prison of Nouakchott.

Nowadays :

– the hunt for the four fugitives continues, as announced last Monday in a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.

– The vehicle that the fugitives had borrowed was found, the evening of the escape, in the Dar Naim district, in the eastern suburbs of Nouakchott. The car owner was arrested.

– Two other people were arrested following searches that took place in Dar Naim.

– Mobile Internet and WiFi are still cut in Dar Naim and only mobile Internet is cut in the rest of the country.

– The searches mainly targeted the homes of the last people who visited the detainees before their escape.

The convicts who were serving a death sentence or 10 years in prison for acts related to terrorism are:

1- Saleck Ould Cheikh, sentenced to death in 2011

2 – Mohamed Rassoul chbih, sentenced to death since 2016

3 – Mohamed Yeslem Mohamed Abdellah in pre-trial detention since 2020

4 – Aboubakrin Sidigh Abatna in pre-trial detention since 2021

The four killed two prison guards and slightly injured two others before escaping from the prison.

The Minister of Equipment and Transport, Government Spokesperson, his colleague for Economic Affairs and Promotion of the Productive Sectors and that of the Civil Service and Labour, are holding a press conference this afternoon on the sidelines of the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers.
