Aug 24 (Reuters) – Maui County, located in the U.S. state of Hawaii, filed a lawsuit against Hawaiian Electric HE.N on Thursday, alleging the utility company was negligent in failing to shut off power. electricity on the island.
The county said the fires that tore through the island of Maui earlier this month were sparked by a damaged power line.
At least 115 people died in the forest fires, fueled by the winds of a distant hurricane, which raged on the island. Between 1,000 and 1,100 people are still missing.
