The French midfielder of Inter Miami, Blaise Matuidi, victim of a collision with an opposing player, had to prematurely leave his partners during the reception of Atlanta which ended in a draw (1-1), in North American Football Championship (MLS).
In the fight for a ball, Matuidi, who wore the captain’s armband of the Florida team, was struck in the abdomen and left flank by Argentine midfielder Santiago Sosa in the third minute. After having struggled to recover, he held on for ten additional minutes on the field, before giving way to his American teammate Joevin Jones. Asked after the meeting, his coach Phil Neville did not say exactly what the former Paris SG and Juventus player was suffering from, indicating that he had been taken to a hospital for examinations.
Led 1-0 after the opening scoring early from Josef Martinez (9th), Inter Miami equalized by the Scottish Lewis Morgan (77th). A draw that keeps him in 9th place (5 pts) in the Eastern Conference, two lengths behind the New York City and New England co-leaders. In the Western Conference, Seattle grabbed first place by beating Portland (2-1). The day before, the LA Galaxy had won the “Trafico”, the Los Angeles derby, at the expense of LAFC (2-1) thanks in particular to a goal by Mexican star Chicharito Hernandez.
