The resident returned home around 11 p.m. There was a lot of smoke in his house at the time. An electric blanket had set fire to the sheets and mattress. The man threw a bucket of water over the bed and closed the door. He then alerted the emergency services.
The fire brigade arrived on the scene and moved the burning mattress to the garden to extinguish it. Outside there was a pungent chemical smell from the burning foam. The house was then ventilated. The home sustained smoke damage. The Salvage Foundation, for first aid in case of fire, will provide support to the resident later.
