Mattie Parker declares election victory over Deborah Peoples in Fort Worth

Mattie Parker emotionally pronounced it is time for Fort Worth to move forward by declaring victory over Deborah Peoples in the election to replace Mayor Betsy Price.

Unofficial results at 10 pm Saturday showed Parker with 53% of the vote compared to 47% for Peoples.

“Together we will do extraordinary things,” Parker said shortly before 10 pm with reports from all 115 of the 133 voting centers in Tarrant County and all precincts in Denton and Parker Counties.

Parker had 41,359 votes to Peoples’ 36,719.

Peoples conceded the contest a little before 10 p.m.

Parker is the right coalition-building leader and has a great mind, Price said.

Parker and Peoples had the largest number of votes in the general election, which saw historic turnout.

After a decade in office, Price announced in January that she would not seek a sixth term as mayor.
