Matthijs van Nieuwkerk Returns to Interview Anouk: The Story Behind the Album Presentation

Oct 30, 2023 at 10:16 PM Update: 4 hours ago

Matthijs van Nieuwkerk is honored that Anouk asked him to interview her this month about her new album. The presenter has not been seen on television for almost a year after reports of inappropriate behavior.

“It was nice to interview someone again,” Van Nieuwkerk said on Monday evening at the presentation of the record in Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam. “I was honored for all kinds of reasons and I am also very happy to be here.”

Van Nieuwkerk was discredited last year by an article in the Volkskrant about a culture of fear at his former program The world goes on. In recent weeks he seems to be slowly but surely returning to work. He also did the book presentations of Bart Chabot and Özcan Akyol.

Anouk also recently contacted Van Nieuwkerk. “Three weeks ago I received a voice message on my phone from a number unknown to me. When I typed it, it turned out that it was Anouk,” Van Nieuwkerk said. The singer asked how he was doing and whether the presenter wanted her new album Deena & Jim wanted to listen.

“I said: yes, send it on. Then I listened for an hour. You don’t know what you hear,” Van Nieuwkerk continued. “I texted back: crazy, completely perfect and so different.” The presenter also compared the record with the musical West Side Story.

Anouk then asked Van Nieuwkerk to do the presentation. The singer also had him interview her, as was announced earlier on Monday. That happened in a snack bar in Amsterdam-Noord. The entire conversation will appear on the singer’s YouTube channel on Wednesday.
