Matthias Schwab missed the cut after a 71 in Carnoustie.

Matthias Schwab recorded a 71 (-1) at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Carnoustie, but with consistently good scores this was clearly not enough for the cut.

After the 68 (-4) at the start at Kingsbarns, showed Matthias Schwab Initially there was strong golf again on the Old Course and after just a few holes played we were already at 3 under par. As the round continued, however, the remarkable momentum was pretty much lost, which is why we only managed a 71 (-1) in the end. With a total of 5 under par, he slipped just behind the expected cut mark, which is why he tackles Carnoustie, which is considered the toughest of the three meadows, only slightly behind the drawn line.

On the first few holes he appears to be very confident, but with good results again he not only doesn’t get any closer to the drawn line with pars, but even slips further back uncomfortably. Even the first par 5 doesn’t show any shot gain, which means he’s already three shots behind the predicted cut mark.

Parserie ended with Eagle

After failing to gain any shots on the other holes on the front nine, he only turns to the back half of the course when it is level par and now has to shift up a gear if he wants to take away prize money and points from Scotland. After eleven uneventful holes, everything came together perfectly on the par 5 of the 12th, because he even landed the eagle on the second long hole of the round and was able to significantly reduce the gaping gap to the cut line.

Matthias SchwabHe only has to be patient for a short time before the last par 5 allows him to gain the next shot shortly afterwards, which means he finally gets within one shot of the final day. However, a double bogey creeps in on the long 15th, which appears on the scorecard at absolutely the wrong time given that there are only a few holes left to play. He can’t improve on the remaining holes and ends up clearly missing out on the final day with a score of 71 (-1). Tyrrell Hatton (ENG) scored a 61 (-11) on the Old Course and started Sunday as the leader with a total of 22 under par.
