Toni Kroos (33) reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with Real Madrid during the week. After beating Chelsea 2-0 in the second leg of the quarter-finals, he once again swore allegiance to his club. Matthias Sammer (55) then sang a hymn of praise for the man from Greifswald.
“It’s something fundamental that distinguishes him. If you make such statements, show appreciation and gratitude, that’s the ultimate at the highest level,” Sammer enthused on Tuesday evening on Amazon Prime. “Accordingly, he’s one of the greats we’ve ever had.”
The TV expert then praised Kroos for his “naturalness”. “This authenticity doesn’t exist that often today, but it affects him, just like his brother (Felix Kroos, editor’s note). These are role models!”
Sammer therefore campaigned once again for Kroos’ return to the national team – also in relation to the approaching European Championships at home in summer 2024. The Rio world champion took note of this statement with a smile, but assured that he would not play for the DFB again.

Toni Kroos didn’t want to scare Real Madrid away with “nonsense”.
In the contract talks with Real Madrid, Kroos, whose contract expires at the end of the season, says he played with just as open cards. “The club knew from the start that I wouldn’t start with any nonsense,” said the five-time Champions League winner after the match against Chelsea.
Kroos will probably sign a new one-year contract with Los Blancos in the near future. The former star of FC Bayern apparently did not spend a single second saying goodbye to Madrid. “In theory, I can sign somewhere else since January 1, but we didn’t even start with this nonsense,” said Kroos.
