(In the 1st paragraph, 3rd sentence, the surname of the Calw District Administrator was corrected: Helmut Riegger rpt Riegger.)
STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) – Generation change at the head of the Baden-Württemberg Savings Banks Association: On May 1, 2024, 43-year-old Matthias Neth will succeed Peter Schneider, President of the Savings Banks. The district administrator of the Hohenlohe district prevailed on Friday at the association meeting with a clear majority against the Calw district administrator Helmut Riegger, as a spokesman for the association announced.
Neth said he was looking forward to the office, even if it would be difficult for him to leave the Hohenlohe district. In the future, he will not only lead the Savings Banks Association, but will also be at the head of the Savings Banks Finance Group, which includes the 50 Savings Banks in the southwest, the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and the Landesbausparkasse Südwest (LBS). The election became necessary because the incumbent, Schneider, is retiring after 18 years at the head of the association.
He had made it clear that he would not shed any tears for the financial sector. He considers the regulations “largely mentally ill”. Because of the bureaucracy, the savings banks would have to “employ the majority of their employees completely unproductively”. His goal is therefore: “Close the door, throw the key around and throw it away.” He is actually more of an agriculturally oriented person, makes wood himself in his own forest and looks forward to spending time with his family.
