Perry and Hurwitz met in 2018 and got engaged in November 2020. At the time, Perry called the literary manager “the greatest woman in the whole world.” “I decided to propose to her, luckily she said yes,” Matthew said after their engagement. But just seven months later, the two go their separate ways. “Sometimes things just don’t work and this is an example of that,” said Perry. “I wish Molly the best.”

There were already signs on the wall that things weren’t quite right between the two. Their wedding was in danger of being overshadowed by trouble. For example, Matthew’s lawyers had urged Molly to sign a prenup. This is to protect his total assets of about 98 million euros. The couple had also decided to ban alcohol at the party. “It’s definitely not a good thing for Matt to be around booze,” his friends said, stressing that the actor has worked hard on his sobriety. Those rumors about drink and drugs were immediately suppressed by friends. “Matthew had emergency dental surgery on the same day the promo interviews took place,” said a source close to the actor. “He had trouble speaking because of the pain. It goes without saying that he didn’t feel like being in front of the camera after such a treatment, but he did it anyway.”
