– Once again we have tragically proven that we fail to take responsibility for the rights our freedom gives us, the actor writes in an Instagram post
The actor Matthew McConaughey, comes from Uvalde where the suspected perpetrator Salvador Ramos (18) shot and killed 19 children and two adults at a primary school in the small town of Texas.
At the same time, he calls for self-examination among his fellow Americans:
– What do we actually appreciate? How do we fix the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually make today to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighborhood for tomorrow?
– We can not breathe again, make excuses and accept these tragic realities as the status quo, McConaughey states.
He believes that what is being done today to prevent such massacres is not enough.
– This is an epidemic we can control, and no matter what political side we stand on, we all know that we can do better. We need to do better. We must act so that no parents need to experience what the parents in Uvalde and others have endured before them.
The question several celebrities ask is about gun control in the United States. Many demand change, and believe the situation is no longer sustainable.
Selena Gomez: – Where are they safe?
Actress and artist Selena Gomez is also shaken by the massacre in Uvalde. She herself comes from Texas.
On Twitter wrote the star five hours ago:
– Today in my home state of Texas, 18 innocent students were killed while just trying to get an education. A teacher was killed while doing her job; an invaluable, but unfortunately underappreciated job. If children are not safe at school, where are they safe?
