Actor Matthew McConaughey says he is seriously considering running for governor of the state of Texas and challenging incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.
It tells the 51-year-old in the podcast “The Balanced Voice”, writes The Guardian. McConaughey says he will investigate the matter further.
– I really think I have some things I can learn from me and share. And what is my role, what should I do in the next chapter of my life? says the actor.
The statement comes about a year and a half before the Texas state election on November 8, 2022. It is already clear that Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is running for re-election.
This is not the first time the 51-year-old and Oscar-winning actor has indicated political ambitions. In November he was asked if he would ask, and McConaughey replied that “it will be more up to the people to decide than me”.
Matthew McConaughey’s political stance is unknown, and it is thus uncertain whether he will potentially be seen as a Republican or Democratic candidate.
