Lothar Matthäus accused Oliver Kahn of lying about the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann.
Earlier, the former Bayern midfielder and the German national team said that the Munich “need to become a family again.” On Thursday, March 30, Matthäus explained his point of view in detail.
“Now the club lacks the warmth, unity and family atmosphere that Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge cultivated. All members of the management unanimously supported the coach in the public field, and a few days later he was kicked out. It really pissed me off,” Matthäus said.
On Saturday, April 1, Kahn criticized Matthäus’ remarks on Sky Sports. Also, the CEO of Bayern called the dismissal of Nagelsmann a decision necessary for the success of Bayern.
“Perhaps sometimes people’s memories are distorted. Even at the time when we played – you probably remember – there were always decisions that were not easy, but – this is important – that were necessary for the success of this club. They are not always popular, but I think we made a very good case for that. Today we are one point behind Borussia (after winning the match on Saturday, Bayern moved into first place, overtaking Borussia by 2 points – Sports.ru). Two and a half months ago we had a lead of 9 points. It’s just one argument, but of course we’ve considered many, many more arguments,” Kahn said.
Later, during the break of the match with Borussia, Matthäus said that he did not believe Kahn.
“I know Oliver Kahn is lying. He just wants to divert attention from problems, so he attacks me. I just say what I hear, see and feel. The chronological sequence described by Kahn does not fit.
Bayern have had an agreement with Tuchel for a long time. That is why the information was leaked from Italy (talking about the journalist Fabrizio Romano – Sports.ru). And if I had not been able to reach Nagelsmann on the phone during his vacation, I would have gone to see him in South Tyrol to talk to him there. I know many people at Bayern that Oliver may not know. And I know how it was,” Matthäus said.
Oliver Kahn, in response to the words of Matthäus, explained his statements as “the image of the main critic in German football.”
“Hasan and I [Салихамиджичем] spoke the truth. We all know that Lothar, after the end of his career, became the main critic of German football. It’s his job and it’s okay, it’s part of him,” Kahn told Bild.
Nagelsmann’s agents blamed Bayern for the club’s failure to contact the coach following rumors of resignation. Kahn claimed that Julian was the first to know about everything
