No way. After a morning of hope and a workout that left him thinking of improvement, Matteo Berrettini raises the white flag and leaves the ATP Finals. He does so after having canceled the light training scheduled at 5.45 pm and posting on social networks a letter on his social accounts in which he explains the reasons for a lacerating choice for morale but necessary to preserve a worn out physique after an expensive year in physical level. He won the pain in the oblique abdominals, which worsened right at the end of the training session this morning where the number 7 in the world had also tried the services. In its place Jannik Sinner who takes over as the first reserve and at 21:00 will challenge the Polish Hurkacz, trying to give a joy to the Italian public and a victory to be dedicated also to the unfortunate Cap.

I thought, thought, cried and finally decided …
My finals end here, I am destroyed, I never thought I would have to give up the most important tennis event ever held in Italy in this way.
The truth is that as much as I wanted to play in front of you once again, I felt and therefore decided that my body is not ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
To say that I am sad would not do justice to the state of mind that I am in, I feel robbed of something that I have conquered with years of effort and sweat. It was not an easy decision, but I am convinced that it is the best for me and for my career.
