Matteo Berrettini qualified for the Wimbledon semifinals: it had been 61 years that an Italian hadn’t reached it

At the Wimbledon tournament Matteo Berrettini beat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets (6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3) and qualified for the semifinals: he will play them on Friday against the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, who in the evening eliminated Roger Federer in three sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-0). Berrettini – currently ninth in the world ranking – was the fifth Italian to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon: now he has also become the second Italian to qualify for the semifinal, sixty-one years after Nicola Pietrangeli, who at the time lost to Australian Rod Laver. The other semifinal of this edition of Wimbledon will be played by Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov.
