Mattel announces the completion of a major expansion of its national network

The leading mobile telephone operator in Mauritania, Mattel organized, on October 11, 2024 in Nouakchott, a ceremony in the presence of its technological partner and world leader Huawei to announce the completion of a major extension of its network.

A project which is part of an ambitious investment plan aimed at strengthening Mattel’s network infrastructure.

Initiated less than two years ago, the project covered all components of the network infrastructure, namely the Core Network with the deployment of 5G-Ready equipment, the Radio part with the introduction at the antenna level of new technology Massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) for the first time in Mauritania, as well as the modernization of energy equipment.

These extensions made it possible, on the one hand, to extend network coverage in several regions of the country and to improve the customer experience with a speed 3 times faster.

The project took place in two phases.

The first, which ended in November 2023, focused on strengthening the network in 266 sites, while the second phase, finalized in September 2024, in accordance with the forecast deadlines, made it possible to carry out a significant extension of the network in 217 sites, covering all regional capitals and moughatas in the country.

In addition, Mattel has strengthened the coverage of 5 main roads in Mauritania, and actively contributed to the realization of the national strategy of universal access, by taking charge of the operation of the network for Voice and Data coverage of the southern border area of ​​the country which extends from N’Diago to Ould Yenge.

Commenting on these important achievements, Mr. Elyes Ben Sassi, Managing Director of Mattel, declared that the investment made by Mattel constitutes an important step to strengthen its position as Leader in Broadband Internet in Mauritania and that Mattel will continue its efforts to guarantee ever more extensive network coverage with the best quality of service.

For his part, Mr. Cheikh Brahim El Hadj Ammar, General Manager of Huawei Mauritania reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to supporting Mattel in its mission to develop its infrastructures by implementing state-of-the-art equipment enabling it to offer innovative and high value-added services.

Through its investment plan, Mattel reaffirms its commitment to supporting the State’s efforts to develop the ICT sector and succeed in digital transformation in Mauritania.
