AGI/Vista – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, is in China from today for a state visit which will last until next Tuesday, 12 November. The Head of State, together with his daughter Laura and accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, visited the Summer Palace, also meeting and greeting a group of young Italians. It is the only appointment scheduled today, dedicated above all to adapting to the different time zone. Tomorrow the mission will come to life with the meeting in Beijing (in the afternoon, morning in Italy) with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, together with the respective delegations, followed by the speech of the two Presidents at the conclusion of the Cultural Forum Italy-China and the signing of agreements between the two countries, before the State Lunch that will conclude the day. The aim of the visit, which comes after that of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, last July, is to seal a complex process which during the year that is about to end has marked Italy’s abandonment of the memorandum on the New Silk Road and the construction of a relationship based on new foundations, with the relaunch of the strategic partnership launched twenty years ago. A mutual interest, given the insistence with which Mattarella’s presence was also requested on the Chinese side, confirming the strong relationship between the Italian Head of State and Xi Jinping, cemented by the two respective state visits held in the previous seven-year period.
