The memory of Mattarella
“The full reconstruction of the city and the villages is a duty and a commitment to continue. For every social component, first of all for the institutions. As such it is the work of reconnecting the social fabric”. Thus in a statement the President of the Republic.
“The memory of such tragic events – underlines the Head of State – must therefore become a warning and commitment for the whole country, to never neglect the value of human life and the integrity of the communities”, continues Mattarella.
“The earthquake of fifteen years ago, on the night between 5th and 6th April, – recalls Mattarella – shocked L’Aquila and the surrounding area, taking more than 300 people from their lives. The destruction struck the historic centre, the outskirts, on the nearby villages, leaving the entire national community astonished and shocked. The country was able to react, mobilizing all its energies, while the inhabitants of the area hit by the earthquake found the strength to start rebuilding their homes, workplaces and schools. , to recover, as far as possible, the artistic beauties”.
“The path of rebirth of that land – he adds – has become a goal and a common civic heritage”.
Meloni: “L’Aquila is a model”
“L’Aquila is a model for the response that the State has given since the management of the emergency, through the reconstruction up to the regeneration of recent years, the first effects of which are being seen”. Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“The government is committed to providing ever greater certainties. A commitment, ours, that we will continue to carry forward with great attention to the city and the internal areas, a strong and proud territory that has shown great dignity in the most difficult moments”, he adds.
“I address a thought to the many who, in various capacities and in different phases, provided their contribution: the Italians who showed great solidarity and closeness; the volunteers who mobilized in the following days and months; the women and men, of Institutions and others, who with self-sacrifice and commitment contributed to carrying out a reconstruction that has become an example”, states Meloni again.
The Prime Minister recalls what the government has done: “With our first budget law we have allocated, with a multi-year vision and as never before, the necessary resources for local authorities. We have also simplified the legislation for public reconstruction and released the funds to complete the reconstruction of the schools and found those to complete the L’Aquila Municipal Theatre.
A commitment, ours, that we will continue to carry forward – he assures – with great attention to the city and the internal areas, a strong and proud territory that has shown great dignity in the most difficult moments. A hug to the communities who, last night, found themselves in the collective mourning of the torchlight procession and renewed the rite of memory. The rebirth of the Eagle is the rebirth of a piece of ourselves. Fifteen years ago we were injured but we were able to get back up and come back stronger.”
