Matt Nagy to be sacked as Chicago Bears head coach after Thanksgiving, report says – Marseille News

Matt Nagy will be fired as head coach of the Chicago Bears after the team faced the Detroit Lions at Thanksgiving, according to Patch reporter Mark Konkol. No major outlet has yet confirmed the report. Nagy denied the report during his press conference on Tuesday.

The Bears have never fired a mid-season coach in franchise history, but the team are under increasing pressure to sever ties with Nagy in another disappointing year. Chicago comes off a 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens led by alternate quarterback Tyler Huntley, who replaced Lamar Jackson while suffering from an illness unrelated to Covid. It was the fifth straight loss for Chicago and dropped the team to 3-7 on aggregate.

Chicago fans chanted “fire Nagy” at every opportunity. This happened during a recent Chicago Bulls game, as well as during Nagy’s son’s football game in high school this weekend.

Nagy led the Bears to a 12-4 season in the first year, but the team lost their first playoff game on the infamous missed “double doink” goal. Nagy has been 19-23 since his first season. He led the Bears to the playoffs last year at 8-8, but they were beaten by the New Orleans Saints in their opener.

Nagy was asked if he was assured he would end the season as head coach of the Bears during his press conference on Tuesday. He replied that he is focusing on the Lions game for Thanksgiving.

Konkol doesn’t typically cover the Bears, but has been a reporter in the city for decades and once won a Pulitzer while working for the Chicago Sun-Times. He toured local radio saying the story had fallen on his knees.
