If it depends on Ghent mayor Mathias De Clercq (Open VLD), his party must transform into an “open movement”, a movement with a new name. That says De Clercq in an interview in De Zondag.

Last week, the sp.a announced a name change. The party will soon be known as Vooruti. Ghent mayor Mathias De Clercq does appreciate Rousseau’s project. “I’ve been saying for some time that the classic parties are outdated, as well as the left-right opposition. I am glad that others also see that, ”he says in De Zondag.
New impetus
According to De Clercq, his party should not seek affiliation with the Vooruit project. “I do think that my party should look for a new impetus. A classic party must evolve towards an open movement. That’s what sp.a does and my party should do that too. We must become an open movement, for members and non-members. This way new ideas can be introduced. ” According to him, this movement should be given a new name.
Sabotage
In the interview, De Clercq is also positive about the chances of success of the federal government formation with the so-called Vivaldi parties. The Ghent mayor is not tender to the attitude of N-VA. He accuses that party of wanting to “sabotage” the country. “N-VA is not interested in our economy. That’s just the sauce on top of the real dish: the end of this country. That is why federally it is not possible to control with N-VA. We want a project for this country ”, says De Clercq.
