Math Teacher Donates Kidney to Student with Rare Genetic Condition

A math teacher at Whitmer College in Ohio, United States, devised a secret plan to donate his kidney to one of his students who was born with branchiotorrenal syndrome, a rare genetic condition that can affect the growth and development of the neck, ears and kidneys.

According to what was reported by The New York PostRoman McCormick’s health began to deteriorate over the years, with doctors warning that he would have to undergo dialysis unless he could find a donor.

Determined to save the boy’s life, his parents began an intense search for a living donor for your child, as the transplant would last longer than that from a deceased donor.

It was then that the teacher Eddie McCarthyheard about her student’s case and decided to go to the hospital to undergo the corresponding tests to determine if his kidney was compatiblewhich was verified after a series of tests.

Initially McCarthy wanted remain anonymousbut he thought that the little boy’s family would want to meet his donor, although he did not know how to break the news to them, and he even wrote a script so as not to get nervous.

I can never… thank you enough for all he has done for us. He is a wonderful human being. I am speechless… I could thank him for the rest of my life and it would still never be enough for what he is doing,” said the boy’s moved mother.

“Technically you don’t need both. So why not help someone who really needs it?” concluded the professor who will undergo surgery on July 19.
