MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition: the versatile mid-range tablet

The manufacturer Huawei has just launched the MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition in Mauritius. This mid-range tablet has anti-reflective technology and is particularly versatile. Le Défi Plus tested it for you.

Huawei recently offered a new touchscreen tablet, the MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition. The brand entrusted it to us for a few days for a full-scale test. The tablet was officially launched in Mauritius on Wednesday September 25, 2024 during a ceremony at the Caudan Arts Centre. The MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition is positioned in the mid-range.

In terms of design, the tablet is rather classic. It gives an impression of quality to the eye and to the touch. We appreciate the matte finish of our test model. The sides are rounded. The tablet can be used in both portrait and landscape mode. But it is the latter which seems the most suitable, especially with the Bluetooth keyboard. It is included in the box of the version that Huawei gave us. The connection is easily made using magnets. The keyboard also serves as a protective cover and support to use the MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition as a laptop.

The Huawei MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition can be held in hand or used as a laptop.

The tablet is compatible with the Huawei M-Pencil stylus. Normally it does not come with it, but currently Huawei offers it as a gift with the tablet, as well as the keyboard. The stylus allows you to take notes and draw on the tablet. It also allows you to fill in fields in applications or websites, instead of using the virtual keyboard or the physical keyboard.

The strong point of this PaperMatte Edition is its 11.5-inch screen. It has particularly effective anti-reflective technology. It therefore protects the eyes of its user. Its display is good, without being exceptional. Huawei has accustomed us to better, but it remains adequate for a mid-range tablet. The refresh rate goes up to 120 hertz (Hz) and the resolution is 2800 x 1840 pixels.

In terms of performance, the MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition is rather fluid and fast. She is comfortable with everyday applications as well as playing video games, even if it is not her specialty. It can also connect to other devices from the brand, and therefore serve as a second screen for a laptop, for example. The RAM is 8 gigabytes (GB), while the storage memory is 256 GB. The tablet runs on the HarmonyOS 4.2 operating system (OS). Google’s apps are not pre-installed, but they can be downloaded through the Petal browser. Their use is then similar to that of an Android device. The tablet unfortunately does not have a SIM card slot. She therefore cannot connect to the internet outside except with a public Wi-Fi network.

The main camera only has a single 13-megapixel lens. It does the job, but we are far from the photographic quality that Huawei has accustomed us to on its smartphones. Ditto for the front camera, more suited to video calls than selfies. Finally, let’s finish with the battery. It offers 8,800 milliampere hours (mAh) which provides good autonomy. Huawei, however, has not equipped the tablet with ultra-fast charging. It is done with a 22.5 watt charger provided in the box. The Huawei MatePad 11.5 S PaperMatte Edition is available at Rs 25,990.
