2-0 home win against Lausanne-Ouchy: FC Wil continues to soar

FC Wil is challenged by the top team Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, especially in the first half. But thanks to Tician Tushi and a strong second half, Wiler achieved a deserved success. So they are still undefeated in the new year.

How stable is FC Wil actually? After the eastern Swiss had recently confirmed their strong form against Schaffhausen, another test against a top team in the Challenge League followed with the home game against Stade Lausanne-Ouchy. Especially since the Vaudois caught the eye a week ago with a 4-1 win against FC Winterthur without discussion.

In fact, it was the guests who had the advantage over long periods in the first half. They were much more active and annoyed the Wiler early on. The result: the home team made too many bad passes in midfield and surprisingly often operated with long balls. Because FC Wil defended steadily in and around the sixteenth again, it was able to keep the zero.

Opening hit before the break inspires the Wiler

Ilan Sauter, in particular, who returned to the team after an injury, showed a strong performance in defense and solved several dangerous situations with flying colors. It was really dangerous only once before the break when Karim Gazzetta was forgotten at the near post. But Philipp Köhn proved with a strong save why the Wilers loaned him from Salzburg.

The Wiler did better than the French-speaking Swiss shortly before the break. After a shot from the post by the extremely present Silvio, the 19-year-old Tician Tushi reacted with lightning speed and brought the eastern Swiss in the style of an experienced striker 1-0 ahead. A tour that was rather happy at the time. But it inspired the Wiler, who showed a completely different appearance in the second half.

Made connection to the middle of the table

On the contrary, of course, the French-speaking Switzerland had to risk more, which opened up opportunities for counterattacks. With one of these quick counterattacks, Tushi increased to 2-0 with his second goal. The Wiler could have won even higher. The best chance to make it 3-0 had Mergim Brahimi, who failed in the final phase alone in front of the goalie.

No question about it: The Wilers are indeed very stable. They also proved this against Lausanne-Ouchy. In the new year they are still undefeated. With their success, they have reduced the gap to the fourth-placed Vaudois from eight to five points, which means they managed to catch up with the middle of the table.
