What: WC in handball, second group stage match.
Was: Scandinavium, Gothenburg.
When: Saturday, return 20.30.
TV/Radio: TV6/Viaplay and Radiosporten.
The premiere: Sweden started the World Cup at home on Thursday, with a little first-time nerves but still a solid victory (26–18) against Brazil.
Position in the team: Good. No injuries reported. Jim Gottfridsson, six-goal scorer against Brazil, admittedly received treatment for a calf injury after the premiere, but also stated that “I have limped since I was 18 years old. But I’m not in more pain than many others”.
The Resistance: Cape Verde won their opener against Uruguay 33–25, but should not be able to upset Sweden over 60 minutes. Has good shooting, a good middle six (Moreno) and plays less predictably than Swedish defenses are used to. Or less structured, if you want to see it that way.
This is how the WC continues: Sweden faces Uruguay in the final round of the first group stage on Sunday. Everything points to “Blågult” moving on to the middle group, with matches in Gothenburg on 18/1, 20/1 and 22/1. If Sweden continues to progress, they play the quarter-finals on 1/25, the semi-finals on 1/27 and the final on 1/29 – all in Stockholm.
