Zaniar Matapour is charged with murder, attempted murder and terror after opening fire on an open street in Oslo on the night of 25 June.
So far, he has not been willing to cooperate with the police, which has led to Matapour being forcibly committed to Bergen.
Thursday alerts Bergens Tidende that the decision has been changed.
– He is willing to meet and cooperate with the experts as long as one of us defenders is present. These talks are planned to take place as soon as possible. We are in close dialogue with the parties involved regarding the practicalities surrounding this, says defender Inger Zadig to the newspaper.
In this way, the 43-year-old avoids forced observation and hospitalization in Bergen, which Oslo District Court decided on 13 July.
Zadig confirms the news to TV 2 on Thursday afternoon.
– Now there will be an ordinary judicial investigation where the goal is to map his state of mind at the time of the crime, says Zadig, as one of several in the team that will defend Matapour.
Defender John Christian Elden has previously stated that Matapour should have referred to the admission as unnecessary.
At the moment, Matapour remains in ordinary custody in Halden.
Two men were killed in the shooting and 21 people injured in the incident that has shaken Norway afterwards.
