From Voltaire is a jack-up installation vessel, which can transport, hoist and install wind turbines. It is equipped with an immense crane with a lifting capacity of more than 3,000 tons, a deck the size of a football field and very long legs that allow it to carry out installation works in water depths of up to 80 meters.
It is a real giant. With the piles at maximum water depth and the main valve set up, the Voltaire the same size as the Eiffel Tower. This is necessary because the offshore wind turbines that are built by the installation vessels are also growing in size.
From Voltaire was launched in a Chinese shipyard on Sunday. Completion is scheduled for the second half of the year. The first order for the ship was received barely a year after ordering. Jan De Nul will use the Voltaire for the construction of the world’s largest wind farm off the English coast.
