Mastodon, the popular decentralized social networking platform, has introduced a new onboarding experience for new users. Starting this week, Mastodon will redirect new users to create an account on mastodon.social instead of overwhelming them with thousands of other server options. However, users can still choose to join a specific community by selecting “Pick my own server” or simply “Join mastodon.social”. With this update, Mastodon aims to make it easier for new users to quickly engage with others and overcome the sign-up process. Mastodon CEO Eugen Rochko explains that the change is necessary to help make decentralization mainstream. In addition to the onboarding experience, Mastodon has introduced quote posts, improved content and profile search, and groups, plus an ongoing focus on improving moderation tools and decentralized features.
