The always confident actress Kim Hye-soo stepped down from her hosting mic, which she had held every year for the past 30 years, at the end of the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards on the 24th of last month. In 1993, twenty-three-year-old Kim Hye-soo hosted her first Blue Dragon Film Awards with Lee Deok-hwa. For the next 30 years, he stood on stage at the Blue Dragon Film Awards every winter without fail. How could it be that she was called ‘the blue dragon’s mistress’ or ‘the blue dragon’s goddess’?

Kim Hye-soo, the moderator, was an icon of ‘film festival fashion’ with her perfect hosting skills. Her dresses were always unconventional and beautiful. She truly showed off the standard of a confident and elegant red carpet dress. It didn’t actually start with a fancy dress. It comes from her ‘body language’ ability that only she can pull off.

When we communicate, we do not only use verbal signals such as speech and writing. From facial expressions to body movements, a lot of information can be obtained and conveyed through nonverbal signals. These nonverbal signals are a big part of everyday communication.

The representative non-verbal signal we use to communicate is ‘body language.’ The results of many communication experiments show that in terms of human information acquisition patterns, information obtained through facial expressions or body movements (gestures) is far ahead of words or sentences actually included in speech. To this extent, the influence and importance of ‘body language’, a non-verbal signal, is emerging.

So how should you use body language? First, we will introduce know-how on how to use appearance and clothing, which are the first things you notice among body language.

Appearance is the beginning of body language. Appearance is your first impression and first word. Although appearance may be something you are born with, appearance is also something that can be cultivated as much as you want. I’m not asking you to get plastic surgery. You can take care of it through your usual mindset, exercise, and training. Have a bright and attractive appearance. Your first impression will change.

As seen in the case of actress Kim Hye-soo, clothing is a key element of body language. Clothing is what supports your appearance and makes you stand out. Invest in clothes. I’m not saying you should invest in expensive clothes. Regardless of price, it is important to create your own style with appropriate colors and designs that suit you. Ultimately, the answer is to dress appropriately for the time, place, purpose, partner, and situation.

The body is another language and is also a person’s impression and personality. Let’s understand the body language of appearance and clothing mentioned above and actively use it in our daily lives. It will give wings to your communication and be of great help to your interpersonal relationships.
