MasterChef Italia Episode Recap: January 18th Highlights and Eliminations

The recap of the January 18th episode of MasterChef Italia

A red box surprises the contestants, with Niccolò confessing that he is afraid of the unknown. We are talking about the first Red Mystery Box in the history of the program: whoever loses will risk going straight to the pressure test, but one of the worst names will be chosen by the best of the test. Guest of honor David Scabin, the shadow man present during the selections. A “cybernetic” egg appears before their eyes: caviar, shallots, vodka, white pepper, egg and a film, the pluribal, which wraps the protagonist of the dish is what is shown to the aspiring chefs. Competitors can look, touch and eat the product, but they do not have to replicate what they have seen, but rather take maximum inspiration from the dish presented by Scabin: with an egg, therefore, you have to create an innovative dish. During the challenge, apart from Markus who drops an egg and Eleonora who has an idea similar to a dish by Chef Cracco – “Don’t make it too similar“, Scabin advises her – nothing sensational happens. The two best ideas are those of Deborah and Niccolò, but a WIN it is the young woman, the first to do double by Golden Pin. The latter chooses Andrea as the worst, while the judges call Settimino, Alberto, Kassandrawho complains about always being mentioned and carries the plate by walking in a way that annoys Cannavacciuolowho states: “Next time you carry a plate while walking like this I’ll send you straight to the pressure test. You brought it like you were doing me a favor“. She defends herself: “It wasn’t wanted”, but the Chef doesn’t agree: “Wasn’t it wanted?” Scabin intervened: “It was your body talking“, and then adds: Scabin: “In my kitchen things either come or go, otherwise it means you did it wrong“. Locatelli takes the floor before tasting: “There were 5 types of chocolate in the pantry“. Kassandra, crying, says: “I didn’t find the chocolate, my mistake. Then I went haywire. I had the idea but couldn’t put it into practice“, but the star chef replies:”If at least I had brought an idea to the table” . Filippo is also among the worst. Kassandra, Filippo, Settimino and Andrea go directly to the pressure test.

Here the competitors must conquer the ingredients inside the seven display cases in front of the judges. By sticking their hand into the containers, they have to recognize them: the more they discover, the more they will use to cook their dish. Sweetbreads, peas, marrow, stracciatella, Jerusalem artichoke, cuttlefish and leek are the ingredients. Kassandra guesses only 3, Filippo 4, and Settimino 1. The latter mistakes the stracciatella for the tomato, the cuttlefish for the stew and the leek for a salami. There is no shortage of laughter, and Barbieri states: “I’m leaving“. The man guesses only the marrow, while Andrea takes home 5. Those directly involved have 30 minutes to complete the dish, but something goes wrong from the beginning for someone: Andrea gets agitated because he has too many ingredients at his disposal , Settimino uses a product that Cannavacciulo considers “killer” and makes a mistake in plating. In front of Barbieri, after receiving compliments for the dish created with just one ingredient, Settimino lets out: “I didn’t want to ‘abundant’ the vegetables”, and then added: “If I had put the bone with the marrow outside, it would have all become mushy and shit would have come out“, leaving the chef stunned with these words. “Excuse me“, says the aspiring chef while Barbieri still smiles in disbelief. Kassandra surprises Cannavacciulo for the better, who states: “Either you make kassandrates or you make a dish“. The first Andrea is eliminatedwhile Filippo goes straight to the second pressure test without going through the external test.

The outdoor test and the second pressure test

The test outdoors It takes place in a sports club where padel is played, just outside Milan. Guest of honor Nicola Amoruso, also a former Juventus footballer. They have to cook two healthy menus for the players of the first and exclusive MasterChef padel tournament, putting their creativity to the test. The judges choose the captains of the brigades: Kassandra (red) and Niccolò (blue). To understand who will be able to choose first between the menu and the first member of the team, the chefs propose a quiz on the personalities who according to them play padel and Kassandra wins, taking the red apron. She takes the opportunity to poke Settimino a little, enjoying herself in doing so. She herself admits it while . ended up on her team as the last one left to choose. In the meantime Cannavacciolo tries to play padel with Amoruso, but he doesn’t succeed very well, so much so that after a point conceded by a young man, the Chef shouts “bastar…” and then asks him to come closer and gives him one of his powerful pats on the back.

New sparks between Settimino and Kassandra, who tells Locatelli that she has left carte blanche to everyone, except Settimino, because: “I want to manage it“. In short, no trust towards her adventure companion, because he tends not to listen to her and works slowly. Antonio tries to spy on the blues’ dishes, and Deborah does the same thing, because she wants to understand what dessert they are cooking. Obviously the two come immediately move away first from Niccolò and then from Michela, who gets angry: “They enter our territory. I go there and steal his green beans“. Barbieri hears unpleasant odors coming from the blue team’s station, while Locatelli gets angry with Kassandra because she decides to cook the rice too early. The blue team decides to put sausage in the yellow rice and mascarpone on the bottom, which makes the dish less dietetic than the guests might have expected. The reds winwhile Niccolò’s team goes to the pressure test together with Filippo.

Before the elimination round, the judges ask the blue brigade what didn’t work, starting with the rice and sausage. Niccolò explains: “Usually after two hours of sport people are exhausted“. Cannavacciuolo doesn’t fit: “Did you see the people there? Do you think it breaks?” Niccolò admits: “No, but how sad“. Michela explains why she didn’t say anything about the risotto in question, despite not agreeing with the dish: “The fact is that I exposed myself in Messina and Rome, but I told myself to keep quiet so as not to put myself in a bad light.“. As for the uncooked rice, everyone tries to defend themselves, but there is nothing to be done: it seems that all 30 diners said that the dish was not cooked well.”You are finished from the padel to the grill“, quips Cannavacciuolo. The competitors must prepare a dish starring stuffed squid, and Locatelli indulges in a television quote: “Squid can explode and this is not a MasterChef Squid Game“.

Kassandra, the captain of the winning brigade, will dictate the times: the first two start immediately, with 30 minutes available (Lorenzo and Sara). After 3 minutes Eleonora and Niccolò leave, another three minutes later Filippo and Alberto and finally Michela has only 21 minutes to cook. Kassandra comments on her choice: “I didn’t like how she behaved at team level, she comes here and has things to say about everyone“, and Michela replies: “Calmness is the virtue of the strong“. Michela gives up at the Golden Pin, because she is not sure how the fish is cooked, and in fact the dish does not convince the chefs.
