The league of Olympic vice-champions from Paris is just starting – PlusLiga. Anniversary – because it is being held for the twenty-fifth time. In Polish halls we will be able to watch as many as 35 participants of the recently concluded games in Paris, 19 medalists, including eleven Poles, with Bartosz Kurek and Wilfredo Leon, debuting in PlusLiga! Incredible emotions are coming, especially since three teams are leaving the elite, so it will also be extremely hot at the bottom of the table.
The first match of the 2024/2025 season is scheduled for Zawiercie, where on Friday, September 13, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will host BOGDANKA LUK Lublin (starting at 8:30 p.m., all matches of the season on Polsat Sport). The Zawiercie team has ambitions for gold, and the visitors made one of the most high-profile transfers in history, bringing in Wilfredo Leon.
– I am glad that this transfer has come to fruition, it was not easy for me and the club, but I was convinced by the family atmosphere here – said Wilfredo Leon, silver Olympic medalist and player of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin. – I like the city, there is a lot of greenery here and there are no big traffic jams, which I really don’t like. We have a common goal with the presidents to slowly build a great team and that is what we will try to do in the near future – said Wilfredo, who signed a one-year contract in Lublin. – But after two months we can sit down to talk about extending it – he smiled at a special conference announcing the transfer.
A galaxy of stars has entered the PlusLiga, practically every team has representatives of different countries, and as many as twelve teams have at least one player who played at the Paris Olympics. It is already clear that the games supported by KRISHOME will bring incredible emotions for the fans!
– The two biggest Polish stars, who will come to Poland after a long time or for the first time, will make the eyes of the entire volleyball world turn to Poland and the PlusLiga – coach Mark Lebedew assesses the transfers of Leon and Bartosz Kurek. – Watching them during the season will be fascinating, despite the fact that they are no longer youngsters, and on top of that Leon was struggling with an injury until recently.
In the jubilee twenty-fifth season, sixteen teams will play in the PlusLiga, the three worst after the end of the regular season will be relegated from the league. The fight for medals will be decided by the play-off phase, and the final will end no later than May 13, 2025.
Let us recall that the Polish Volleyball League and KRISHOME – a nationwide chain of joinery showrooms, continue their fruitful and long-term cooperation. The characteristic orange signet will be visible in the PlusLiga and cup competitions for the next two years. The dynamically developing Polish company effectively supports the best league volleyball, which is celebrating its triumphs.
– In professional sports, the most important thing is stability in feelings and long-term cooperation, which has a chance to result in sports successes, and this is exactly the case with our partnership with KRISHOME – emphasizes Artur Popko, president of the board of Polska Liga Siatkówki SA – I am very happy that we have the opportunity to cooperate and achieve successes with such a dynamically developing domestic company. Our league volleyball needs such friends very much, to be able to later drive the national teams to success. Let me just remind you that last season our men’s clubs played in all the finals of the European cups, winning two of them, and the team won bronze in the Nations League and the Olympic vice-championship. Now all these stars will play in PlusLiga, an unforgettable season is coming up, we can’t wait for it to start – adds the president.
