The Master Ninja Gaiden collection is now available – and the PC port turned out to be bad.
The PC version of this collection of action games is simple, with very limited customization options and graphics.
It doesn’t support mouse and keyboard, which forces PC users to play with controllers. The controller may be preferable for Ninja Gaiden, but it doesn’t provide a surprising mouse and keyboard.
To play in full screen mode, you have to start the game and then click the maximize icon in the top right corner of the title bar. The game starts in windowed mode every time.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of this PC port, however, is how you change the resolution. When the game starts, it will determine the best resolution for your settings: 1920 x 1080 (1080p) or 3840 x 2160 (4k). 1440p resolution is not supported and the game appears to be locked at 60 frames per second.
In most games, you can change the resolution through the game settings. Not so in the Master Ninja Gaiden Collection. To set a specific resolution, you need to open the game properties from your Steam library and manually enter the desired resolution (“720p”, “1080p” or “4k”) into the startup options text field.
There are no other performance settings. “By setting the game to a low resolution, you can reduce the processing load,” Koei Tecmo told players.
Early anecdotal reports from gamers suggest the £30 Ninja Gaiden Master Collection is fine on PC, but the lack of basic PC-only features is a poor display for Koei Tecmo.
As expected, negative reviews regarding Steam. “At least Ninja Gaiden is FINALLY on PC, but I almost hope it doesn’t when it does.” write user Luke.
“I hope Tecmo will address some of these terrible problems, but I have no hope.”
