Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Ganesha’s Sleigh, received the public spotlight after delivering a speech at the 7th PSI Anniversary Peak event which was also attended by President Joko Widodo. In that speech, Giring had mentioned that a liar had been fired by Jokowi.
Giring did not specifically mention who the figure in question was. Even so, many people speculated that the person Giring meant in his speech was the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan. This is because PSI, which is now included in the DKI Jakarta DPRD, is always at odds with Anies’ policy.
The Executive Director of Indonesia Political Opinion, Dedi Kurnia Syah, assessed that what Giring was doing was indeed a PSI scenario. According to him, PSI positioned itself as an anti-Anies party for two reasons.
First, they want to pursue additional votes for the 2024 General Election by choosing a potential and targeted niche, namely the pro-Jokowi and anti-Anies groups.
“This is a smart choice even though it is risky, namely fighting each other and damaging the reputation of democracy. Second, Anies Baswedan is currently the main figure affiliated with the central government counter-coalition, so building sentiment between loyalists is very easy, this is the trigger for that popularity,” said Dedi when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (27/12).
According to Dedi, PSI and Giring used the big name Anies for their political interests. This was not done because Anies immediately needed to be criticized.
“It’s more about PSI’s need to get the impact of Anies’ popularity and all the political climate,” he added.
Even so, Dedi assessed that the political strategy of Giring and PSI could backfire in the future. He said that this strategy is not the way of politicians with intellectual capacity, but the way political parties work that lacks ideas and ideas.
Dedi said that PSI had two options for using this strategy: PSI could win votes from anti-Anies voters, or PSI would slowly destroy its reputation because it was seen as only spreading hatred.
“If he is consistent in the current way, Giring will only become a laughing stock for other political party politicians, and that will have an impact on PSI collectively. Beyond that, PSI will be difficult to trust by the public as a political party with constructive intentions,” he explained.
