Los Angeles, July 31, 2023 – The huge is out of control fire exploded in the national reserve of Mojavein Southern California. The fire broke out Friday in the Caruthers Canyon area, yesterday it crossed the border, pushing into Nevada. It is not the only fire that burns in California as in other US states, hit by a wave of extreme heat. But it is the largest.
Nel Mojave flames 6 meters high they march at a high pace: they have already charred tens of thousands of hectares of desert scrub, juniper and joshua trees, known for their short branches, covered at the end with small leaves that look like pompoms. In 2020 the Dome fire had already burned 1.3 million of these plants, equal to 13% of those existing in the reserve. Now the biodiversity of the region, which hosts a diversified fauna (turtles, foxes and lynxes to name a few of the inhabitants of the area), risks being seriously compromised.
Fire swirls
About 250 firefighters are working in the region, but i whirlpools of fire scattered around the reserve have now had the upper hand. The main obstacle is the vento. “These weather conditions are very dangerous – explained Federal Bureau of Land Management -.
