Massive Transformer Fire Leaves Nearly 4,000 Con Ed Customers Without Power on Staten Island

NEW YORK — A transformer fire on Staten Island left nearly 4,000 Con Ed customers without power Wednesday afternoon, the New York City Fire Department said.

The fire occurred at a substation located in Hylan Blvd y Naughton Avenue around 4:00 in the afternoon. The agency confirmed that 3,750 customers were left without power and that they are trying to resolve the problems as “quickly and safely as possible.”

So far no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

This comes just days after another incident at a Con Edison power company substation in Brooklyn that caused a brief but shocking loss of power across much of New York City early Friday morning.

According to Con Edison, all power was restored where outages were reported on Staten Island, as of 5:10 p.m.

This is a developing story.
